Enriching Lives Success Stories
We at Easter Seals have begun work on a recycling project. Our individuals are really excited to be a part of this new project. We have individuals such as Jerome, who is vision impaired, participating with this contract. The individuals have been more excited at work and completing the task because of the recycling contract. Quinton, who has required extensive supervision due to his difficulty of adjusting to certain contracts and having some negative behaviors, is seen to be smiling constantly while working at the sorting table. We also have individuals such as Shane, Nina and Beth that become excited when the machine starts up. They immediately want to begin working on the project. Their tasks to is remove the Styrofoam from the bags, sort it thoroughly, remove and tape or labels and place it on the conveyor. The conveyor moves it to the machine where it is ground, densified and extruded into logs. Most, if not all individuals in the facility, are capable and willing to get involved with this project. This really excites the individuals and helps them feel successful to be part of Easter Seals.

To Whom It Concern:
My name is Kristal. I’m 36 years old and have a schizoaffective disorder. At my lowest point in my life, I was living in a trailer in the country with no running water, no car. I was taken from that home by the court to a residential care facility. I hated it there. I had no money and the food was terrible. There was no extra money for crafts or entertainment. They taught me how to take my medications and the voices and hallucinations stopped.
I moved to Lamar and live with my sister for 2 weeks. I tried for 4 months and to get a job at the Lamar Enterprises workshop. Finally they hired me.
I’ve worked there almost 2 years now. The staff is very attentive to my needs and the needs of others. The staff goes above and beyond their duties to be helpful. Manager Judd went to Wal mart on one of my paydays and picked up a brand new bicycle for me that I had bought. Now I can ride it to work. Since I’ve worked at the workshop I have accomplished a lot. I bought a car and I have bought almost all new furniture. It’s not like living in a care facility. I get paid enough that I eat good food and get to go to Wal Mart. I work hard, but I like it. I’ve been given the opportunity to live an work independently. I love my co-workers and the staff. We entertain each other. We celebrate birthdays and have a big party at Christmas time.
I wonder where I would be without the workshop. I’m not the only one who would be lonely everyday if we didn’t get the fellowship at the workshop. I’m very happy with the workshop.
Thank you,
Kristal
